Artists of the Week!

This week, the 6th graders worked with clay.  We learned the technique of ‘slab construction’.  We created a template of five 4”x4” squares which we then carved out of clay. We folded the four squares up around the fifth (bottom square). We used slip to smooth out all the cracks. Next week we will paint our boxes!

Artists of the Week!

This week, 6th grade focused on the artistic elements of shape and space for our lessons.  We discussed positive and negative space and learned how to differentiate the two types of space.  We drew a still life of large leaves and stems, but focused only on the negative space of the composition to create our drawings.  Here are too wonderful examples by Sydney & Sophie.

Artists of the Week!

Last week, the 6th graders expanded their knowledge of the basics of art with a lesson on the Principles of Art (rhythm, contrast, pattern, movement, unity, balance, emphasis and variety).  We combined our knowledge of the Elements of Art with the Principles of Art to create one-of-a-kind pizzas.  Here are two full pizzas with the slices. Braxton and Mike were our artists of the week.  Braxton created a unique pattern of shapes while Mike created a deep dish slice of ‘za with an emphasized large slice of pepperoni on top!
